Broaddus ISD Uses Design-Build Contract for High School with Greater Safety Features
A new state-of-the-art high school complex for Broaddus Independent School District, near Lufkin, in east Texas, opened in 2001.
The facility was built with precast, high strength, concrete walls, provided by Speed Fab-Crete, the project's design-builder. Such walls give the building more fire and storm resistance.
Callahan & Freeman Architects specified that the interior finish of the special barreled-shaped roofs be exposed, arched trusses with a linear ceiling system to create a warm, yet bright, atmosphere for students.
The complex includes a 500-seat gym, with a section of stadium-type seats.
"Design-build" is the system of contracting by which one entity performs architecture, engineering and construction under a SINGLE CONTRACT with the owner.
Broaddus ISD is among several Texas school district to realize advantages of the design build TEAM approach for a successful building project delivered on-time, in budget!
