Tornado Shelter Designed to Withstand F-5 Category Tornado

Speed Fab-Crete's precast concrete wall building system was selected for construction of the new Emory, Texas Community Center and Tornado Shelter, northeast of Dallas. Per FEMA specifications, the building was designed and constructed to withstand a tornado in the F-5 category, or maximum winds of 250 miles per hour.

Specialty Building with Precast Panels

The ABC and FOX network affiliates in Dallas-Fort Worth used the building system to build twin transmitter facilities for the emerging High Definition Television requirements of the 21st Century! Owners' design criteria required roof resistance to falling chunks of ice from the transmitter tower.

American Airlines used the building system to form the seven-story walls of a mammoth maintenance hanger at Alliance Airport in Texas. Spanning the length of four football fields, the building accommodates seven wide-body jet planes for servicing at the same time!

Speed Fab-Crete Custom Cabinet Shop

Custom designed and built cabinetry is an integral part of unique services available to our customers. The cabinet shop consists of skilled carpenters and finishers who use mostly oak and no particle board in handcrafting their products with passionate care.

The result is beautiful "artisanship-quality" for kitchen-office cabinets, computer workstations, information centers, and display cases, as an example, built to exacting specifications for protection of museum artifacts.

During high humidity, the woodworkers meticulously delay certain steps in making of the cabinetry to assure lasting durability and appearance.

Storm-Tested and Still Standing!

The precast concrete walls of five buildings, constructed by Speed Fab-Crete, remained intact during a devastating tornado which struck Fort Worth, Texas in 2000. None of the walls sustained structural failure despite 157-mile-per-hour winds!

Five buildings, with exterior precast concrete walls produced and installed by Speed Fab-Crete, were in the path of the 2000 Fort Worth, Texas tornado March 28. At each location, the walls remained intact! Three of the buildings re-opened within days despite total destruction around them.

At each building, the Speed Fab-Crete precast concrete wall system apparently was unaffected by the Fujita scale "F-2 category" winds up to 157 miles per hour. This is consistent with previous independent tests by the Construction Research Center at UT-Arlington. And, now an "F-2 category" tornado proved it!

The precast concrete walls are produced as "sandwich panels" for refrigerated facilities and church building customers in "colder climate" regions. Normally, the thickness of the wall is ten inches with a two-inch thick, rigid insulation board covered on both sides by concrete.

SFC Bridge Systems, a division of Speed Fab-Crete Corporation, designs, manufactures and assists in the installation of 3-sided concrete arch bridge systems. These clear span, environmentally friendly arch structures are economical, durable and virtually maintenance free. Typical uses are roadway stream crossings, pedestrian walkways and tunnels.

The custom designed precast system, approved by the Texas Departmenet of Transportation, allows for total "set in place" construction of bridges, overpasses, culverts and underground structures, including requirements for retention and containment. Backfilling of these bridge configurations can begin immediately! The arch system also allows for curved alignments.

The off-site fabrication and production assures faster installation, minimizes road closings and detours and eliminates costly maintenance of an exposed bridge deck and bridge deck icing.
